As the parents of eight children, attorneys Mark and Alexis Breyer know the uneasiness that parents feels when their child is out of their eyesight, either driving a car or riding with another teen driver. Young drivers are inexperienced behind the wheel, and they don’t always make the wisest decisions. Also, motor vehicle accidents cause over one-third of all teen deaths in the United States. Such statistics only add to a parent’s worries.
Knowing that a major cause of accidents for young drivers is impaired driving, Alexis and Mark, The Husband and Wife Law Team, decided to launch their Arrive Alive, Don’t Drink & Drive! 2018 Scholarship Contest. The aim of the contest was to raise awareness of the dangers of impaired driving among young drivers, and who are young adults more likely to listen to than other young adults?
Arizona college students and college-bound high school seniors were allowed to enter in one of four categories:
Graphic Design
Essay
Poem
Video
The prize was a $1,000 scholarship for each category’s winner, which is certainly something every college student can put to good use.
And the Winners Are…
Our team at Breyer Law Offices, P.C., was impressed by all the excellent entries by ambitious students who care about the safety of their peers. But in the end, only one student in each category can win, and we are now proud to announce our winners:
In the Graphic Design category, the winner is Aimee Liou, who created a stunning image.
In the Essay category, the winner is Audrey Nicole Castillo, who penned an informative piece on how alcohol interacts with the human body and impairs a person’s ability to drive.
In the Poem category, the winner is Bryce Hurd for his poetic look at how impaired driving can negatively affect one’s future.
In the Video category, the winner is Kyle Goings, whose live-action video displayed how impaired and distracted driving can impact a driver’s ability to perform basic tasks, like stopping in time and seeing pedestrians.
