It happens to all of us: we get busy and forget to purchase that perfect Halloween costume. With events rapidly approaching, you need something to wear! Or maybe you have a costume but want to change it up so you’re not wearing the same thing multiple times. You’re in luck. There are plenty of fast, affordable costumes you can throw together last-minute. Here are some ideas:
Hot Air Balloon Pilot: Simply grab an old laundry basket (preferably round) and cut out spaces in the bottom to insert your legs. You’ll wear the basket like a pair of pants, and you’ll attach a large helium balloon with strings to the outer edges of the basket. Put on your favorite pair of aviator shades and you’re ready to go. This is great for kids and adults.
Your Favorite Emoji: Which emoji do you use the most? The smiley face? Dancing girl? Race car? Simply enlarge and print the emoji, paste to a piece of cardboard, cut to fit, and hang it over your shoulders as you would a pair of suspenders. Voila! Instant Internet icon. For extra fun, dress your entire family up as emojis.
Don’t Take a Selfie. BE a Selfie: Are you a Facebook-aholic? Use Instagram every day? Or do you prefer Twitter? Take a screenshot of your phone when it’s open to your favorite social media app. For example, the Instagram app would have “Instagram” across the top in the blue frame, and the five icons across the bottom. Enlarge and print this screen, cut out a square in the middle, and use it to hold up as a frame around your face. Instant selfie!
Think Food: Balloons make it super easy to create a costume in less than minutes. Be “three peas in a pod” with your family or best friends by simply adding greens balloons to your outfit. Or be a bunch of grapes by adding purple. What other colors could you use to represent your favorite foods? (I’m thinking fruit baskets!)
50 Shades of Grey: There are so many different variations on this favorite book, you can’t go wrong. Grab all the different shades of gray you can find at your local paint store and stick them to your body. Or see how many gray items you can wear from your closet. Your friends will have fun figuring out what you are!
There are plenty of fun activities to wear your costumes to, including Fountain Hills’ “Halloween in the Hills” on the Avenue of the Fountains. They’ll feature trick-or-treating, a costume contest, carnival games, a photo booth, and more. Here are some other events around the area:

Enchanted Pumpkin Garden in Carefree
Salt River Fields Balloon Spectacular
Howl-O-Ween at the Phoenix Zoo

Howling Night Run in Phoenix
At Breyer Law Offices, P.C., we want to remind you about basic safety tips when you are out and about for Halloween events, including wearing reflective clothing, carrying a light, using crosswalks, traveling on well-lit streets, and asking a friend to be your designated driver (or use public transportation). Have a great Halloween!
